Artist Statement
Madelon Arends (2000, she/her) is a Dutch artist who daily uses a wheelchair, due to a connective tissue disorder. Because of her disability, she experiences how badly the world is equipped for wheelchair users and how ignorant society is. This results in her being left out.
That is why Arends makes art about her experiences as a wheelchair user. These artworks can be paintings, digital work or even an installation. Her art is supposed to give able bodied people an insight on how it is to be disabled, and to show disabled people that they are not alone.
"Please, take place in my 'shoes' and, for a moment, experience Groningen how I do in every day life." - Madelon Arends
